Fortnightly update 25: 09.11.2020 to 22.11.2020
In this blog series, I share my fortnight-to-fortnight triumphs (and failures) as a writer. Despite all the ups and downs, I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Flash fiction and short stories
I’m currently submitting flash fiction and short stories to online magazines and such for publication. This fortnight, I got my first acceptance, in Black Hare Press‘s anthology Dark Drabbles – 666! While only a 100-word story, it’s still a big step forward for me. The anthology won’t be available until August 2021, but you can find out more about it here. Stoked.
Frontier Media
I write scripts for Frontier Media, a media production company specialising in YouTube. Our two largest channels are The Front and Geetsly’s, and while I’ve written for Geetsly’s in the past, I mostly write for The Front. Two videos for which I wrote the scripts were uploaded this fortnight.
I write 280-character stories using various writing prompt hashtags on Twitter, and I also host #WeirdVSS. This fortnight, I wrote just two stories. My goal is to get back to writing at least four a fortnight by the end of the year!
#reek
I breathe the reek of your shower-drain coagulation. Your bloody toilet-bin paper-parachutes sate me like no sewer rat ever could. I’m getting stronger — enough to tongue the ear gunk from your earrings while you’re out of the house. Another summer, and you’re mine.
#gibber
I finish the cask red and gibber to my rose-cheeked friends about how I’d be the perfect guy to make first contact with aliens. When a moonbeam thickens and takes a spindly, probing form in my bedroom later that night and says, “Go back to sleep,” I’m not so sure.
Conclusion
My acceptance into Black Hare Press’s anthology is the big news this fortnight. Other than that, I’m just trying to keep my head above the water in this busy time of year, probably like a lot of you.
Thanks for reading <3
