Fortnightly update 30: 18.01.2021 to 31.01.2021

In this blog series, I share my fortnight-to-fortnight triumphs (and failures) as a writer. Despite all the ups and downs, I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Flash fiction and short stories

I’m currently submitting flash fiction and short stories to online magazines and such for publication. This fortnight, I hit it pretty hard, writing a few decent shorts, but I have received no new rejection/acceptance updates as of yet (at least no major ones). I’ll keep on the grind!

Frontier Media

I write scripts for Frontier Media, a media production company specialising in YouTube. Our two largest channels are The Front and Geetsly’s, and while I’ve written for Geetsly’s in the past, I mostly write for The Front and our new, smaller channel The Braved. Four videos for which I wrote the scripts were published this fortnight.

Twitter

I write 280-character stories using various writing prompt hashtags on Twitter. This fortnight, I wrote just two pieces.

#ursine

Who would have guessed I’d one day dress up in a genuine Earth-bear rug to get into an Ursine bar on Kepler to try my luck with an Ursine lady? I sure as hell didn’t, and it’s gone smooth as honey so far. I just feel bad for the dude who rocked up in a koala suit.

#stigma / #usual

As the bee dragged its metallic, pollen-caked body over the flower’s stigma, the flower quivered. Nano-bots weren’t the flower’s usual root, but it was 2029, and the flower didn’t want to be prudish like the other assholes blooming in the garden beside it.

Conclusion

Overall, this fortnight was the colour beige. I got plenty of work done, but things were pretty steady, aside from hiring new team-members for Frontier Media. But do you really wanna hear about that? The only other thing worth sharing is that I’ve started giving 1-bit pixel art a crack. It’s pretty fun, and I’ll let you know if it goes anywhere.
