Fortnightly update 37: 26.04.2021 to 09.05.2021
In this blog series, I share my fortnight-to-fortnight triumphs (and failures) as a writer. Despite all the ups and downs, I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Short fiction
I’m currently submitting short fiction, mostly flash fiction and short stories, to online magazines and such for publication. This fortnight, as with the last two, was pretty damn successful. I got a 9k-ish-word (which apparently means it’s a novelette) story accepted, and it went live this fortnight as well! I also wrote and submitted a couple of creepy short stories that I’m feeling fairly confident about, with one of them being my first attempt at a young adult story. More on those two later! For now, here are my stats:

If you’re interested, that novelette was Children of Ibbdgalgar, which you can read online in Issue 16 of Novel Noctule. It’s set in Western Australia and features drugs, heavy metal, and Lovecraftian caterpillars.
Frontier Media
I write scripts for Frontier Media, a media production company specialising in YouTube. Our two largest channels are The Front and Geetsly’s, and while I’ve written for Geetsly’s in the past, I mostly write for The Front and our new, smaller channel The Braved. Four videos for which I wrote the scripts were published this fortnight.
I write 280-character stories and poems using various writing prompt hashtags on Twitter. Well, I used to. I’m struggling to get any consistency with this, but I’m gonna add it to my weekly to-do list and see if I can get back on top of things. Halp.
Conclusion
Children of Ibbdgalgar was a BIG personal victory for me. It improved my confidence drastically, especially with writing in an Australian setting with distinctly Australian characters. Liberating AF. Oh, and as per last week, I ended up running Monster of the Week with great success, as well as last night. Such a fun TTRPG system!
