Fortnightly update 43: 19.07.2021 to 01.08.2021
In this blog series, I share my fortnight-to-fortnight triumphs (and failures) as a writer. Despite all the ups and downs, I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Short fiction
I’m currently submitting short fiction, mostly flash fiction and short stories, to online magazines and such for publication. I’ve been a little slow on the submissions, but it’s because I have four short stories I keep editing and re-writing and can’t seem to finish. I’m hoping I can send at least one of them off this coming fortnight, and I’m hoping to write some flash fiction, just to get some more work out there. One of this fortnight’s rejections was from Flash Fiction Online. My story made it to the third and final round but didn’t quite make the cut. Spewin’.
Here at this fortnight’s stats:
Submissions: 2
Pending: 6
Rejections: 3
Acceptances: 0
Rejections 2021 (from June 8th): 4
Frontier Media
I write scripts for Frontier Media, a media production company specialising in YouTube. Our two largest channels are The Front and Geetsly’s, and while I’ve written a little for Geetsly’s in the past, I mostly write for The Front and our new, smaller channel The Braved. Just two of my videos went live this fortnight. And here are my total stats:
Videos for The Front: 96
Videos for The Braved: 27
I write 280-character stories and poems using various writing prompt hashtags, mostly #vss365, on Twitter. I wrote four this fortnight. I think the clam one’s cute.
#afraid
Rappelling down the fissure, he emerged in the black cavern in which he believed the god-queen slept. His flare was still falling. He called her terrible name, more afraid now, after everything he’d done, after all that blood, that she wouldn’t call his name back.

#permission
The archmage had created many clay golems over the centuries and knew the constructs could not think nor feel. Though, when he finally granted his most recent golem permission to tear itself apart, to die, he could have sworn the damn thing smiled.

Conclusion
In other news, I took a fair bit of time off this fortnight. I was supposed to go to this heavy metal festival in the middle of Australia called Blacken, but COVID fucked that up for me. I went on a nice long haiku walk instead and had some pints with some friends. It didn’t quite give me what I needed, but I needed some sort of break. I was running on empty.
