Fortnightly update 53: 06.12.2021 to 19.12.2021

In this blog series, I share my fortnight-to-fortnight triumphs (and failures) as a writer. Despite all the ups and downs, I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Short fiction

I’m currently submitting short fiction, mostly flash fiction and short stories, to online magazines and such for publication. It was overall a pretty damn slow fortnight. Most of my energy went into the new Macedonian folk horror story I mentioned last fortnight as well as my grandad’s memoir and mastering my podcast, Spinning Yarns with Nick & Paddy. I’m hoping to really pick up my short fiction writing in 2022, drafting at least one story every fortnight.

Here are this fortnight’s stats:

Submissions: 1
Pending: 7
Rejections: 1
Acceptances: 0
Rejections 2021 (from June 8th): 26

Grandad’s memoir

So I finalised my grandad’s memoir this fortnight. It sounds great, I think, and is relatively short (around 7,300 words). I now have to figure out how to turn it into an ebook and print it as well. This is probably a good skill to have anyway, so I’m up for the challenge. I’m hoping to put a link to the memoir, titled Turje: A Ghost Town, up here by February or March. It will be free for all to enjoy.

Frontier Media

I write scripts for Frontier Media, a media production company specialising in YouTube. Our two largest channels are The Front and Geetsly’s, and while I’ve written a little for Geetsly’s in the past, I mostly write for The Front and our new, smaller channel The Braved. Three of my videos went up this fortnight. It was great writing about a couple of Aussie stories!

And here are my total stats:

Videos for The Front: 113
Videos for The Braved: 46

Conclusion

This fortnight (as I’m sure it was for many) was all about tying off loose ends and setting up goals for 2022. I’m a little dissapointed with my Twitter activity (I wrote no vss), and this is something I’d like to rectify next year.

In other news, I joined a couple of book clubs, and it has been an absolute blast. I’m meeting people and reading books I would otherwise never meet and read.

Anyways, thanks for reading, and have a safe and happy holidays.

Much love <3
