Fortnightly update 54: 20.12.2021 to 02.01.2022

In this blog series, I share my fortnight-to-fortnight triumphs (and failures) as a writer. Despite all the ups and downs, I wouldn’t have it any other way.

I know I’m a day late with this one, but that’s just ’cause I’m still rocked from NYE. Forgive me.

Short fiction

I’m currently submitting short fiction, mostly flash fiction and short stories, to online magazines and such for publication. I got some BIG news this fortnight, with a story acceptance from PseudoPod, one of the best horror podcasts around. It was a flash fiction piece, about 500 words, and was one of those stories that just worked. I can’t wait to hear it narrated on the podcast, and I’ll be sure to share it here when it’s up. I also scored a pair of lovely rejections this fortnight and decided to take those two stories out of rotation. I can do better. Also, I can now begin with my 2022 goal of scoring 100 story rejections. Wish me luck!

Here are this fortnight’s stats:

Submissions: 0
Pending: 5
Rejections: 2
Acceptances: 1
Rejections 2022: 0

Frontier Media

I write scripts for Frontier Media, a media production company specialising in YouTube. Our two largest channels are The Front and Geetsly’s, and while I’ve written a little for Geetsly’s in the past, I mostly write for The Front and our new, smaller channel The Braved. Two of my videos went up this fortnight.

And here are my total stats:

Videos for The Front: 113
Videos for The Braved: 48

Conclusion

I’m super proud of this fortnight’s efforts. Not because I put out a lot of work, but because I managed to stay away from my work for a couple of weeks. I’m sure many writers and creatives empathise with this. And I actually had a blast, seeing friends and family and playing hours and hours of Magic: The Gathering (EDH, of course). Now, if I’m to get any work done this year, I need to set my cards aside for weekend use only.

Speaking of this year, I’m planning for a big one. You’ll hear all about it right here, so stay tuned.

Happy new year, friends!
