Fortnightly update 57: 31.01.2022 to 13.02.2022
In this series, I share my fortnight-to-fortnight triumphs (and failures) as a writer. Despite all the ups and downs, I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Short fiction
I’m currently submitting short fiction, mostly flash fiction and short stories, to online magazines and such for publication. I scored my first acceptance of 2022 this fortnight, and I’ve been flying ever since because it was my necromancer story and it found an Australian home with Etherea Magazine. I can’t wait until this one goes live and I can share it with ya.
Overall, it has been a slow start, but I’m shifting my daily routine up a bit so I’m writing every day, rather than just a lot on Tuesdays. I’ve been starting at 6 AM and going through to 8 AM, writing 500 to 750 words of fiction a day and then moving on to my client work. So far, I’ve been more productive with my time and I feel more satisfied and healthy. Consistency is key, and with this routine, I can probably draft a short story or at least a flash fiction piece every week, which would be lovely.

I’ve also been getting back into #vss365 on Twitter, which is nice. It’s genuinely a great way to generate story ideas, a department in which I’ve been lacking. As I used to do, I’m going to start sharing my tiny stories here again.

Spinning Yarns
Last fortnight, my mate Patrick and I released our podcast Spinning Yarns with Nick & Paddy, which is about storytelling in all its forms. We dumped three episodes out at once to get the ball rolling, but now we’re moving to fortnightly releases. This fortnight, Episode 4 “Perspectives” went live, and you should definitely check it out.
Frontier Media
I write scripts for Frontier Media, a media production company specialising in YouTube. Our two largest channels are The Front and Geetsly’s, and while I’ve written a little for Geetsly’s in the past, I mostly write for The Front and our new, smaller channel The Braved. Four of my videos went up this fortnight. I love the one on The Front about Britain in World War II. It’s probably one of my best scripts yet.

Conclusion
