Fortnightly update 67: 20.06.2022 to 03.07.2022
In this series, I share my fortnight-to-fortnight triumphs (and failures) as a writer. Despite all the ups and downs, I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Short fiction
I’m currently submitting short fiction, mostly flash fiction and short stories, to online magazines and such for publication.
After hundreds of hours, I finalised and submitted my dark fantasy story The Menticider this fortnight. I’m super proud of myself for sticking it out, and grateful for everyone who helped me along the way. I also received a rejection from, like, a year and a half ago, which is pretty funny; I’d long since self-rejected that one.
With The Menticider out of the way, I’ve got to polish my stories The Long People and Scull, and then I’m going to get back into my flash fiction, trying to pump out a 1k-word draft per week.
Here are this fortnight’s stats:
Submissions: 4
Pending: 6 (6 stories; 0 sim subs)
Rejections: 2
Acceptances: 0
Rejections 2022: 19
Spinning Yarns
My mate Patrick and I recently released our podcast Spinning Yarns with Nick & Paddy, which is about storytelling in all its forms.
A finale, finally.
After two months of delays, we finally released episode 13, our final episode of season one. Our very first interview was fun as hell, and we’re looking forward to replenishing our content stocks and lining up interviews for season two.
We’re not exactly sure when we’ll drop S2E1, but it will be this year.
Thanks for all your support so far <3

Copywriting: Frontier Media
I write scripts for Frontier Media, a media production company specialising in YouTube content. Our two largest channels are The Front and Geetsly’s, and while I’ve written a little for Geetsly’s in the past, I mostly write for The Front and our new, smaller channel The Braved.
As I said last week, I’ve got some bad news: we’re going to be phasing out The Braved and merging its content with The Front. The two channels are just too similar, and The Braved seems to have lost its momentum. This happens. YouTube is a difficult beast to tame. And we might as well capitalise on The Front’s superior subscriber base.
Two of my videos went up this fortnight, and here are my total stats:
Videos for The Front: 137
Videos for The Braved: 71
Thoughts
My main goals this fortnight were to get the final episode of season one of our podcast finished and The Menticider submitted, and I did both of these things. Sometimes, I focus on what I didn’t do, on what tasks I pushed back, but I think it’s important to celebrate your wins, and I certainly celebrated these ones.
