Fortnightly update 69: 18.07.2022 to 31.07.2022

In this series, I share my fortnight-to-fortnight triumphs (and failures) as a writer. Despite all the ups and downs, I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Short fiction

I’m currently submitting short fiction, mostly flash fiction and short stories, to online magazines and such for publication.

This fortnight, I submitted my story The Long People to a bunch of A-tier markets and got a bunch of rejections, which is to be expected, but I’m proud of the story and I’m gonna keep firing it out. I also edited another story, but besides that, and besides reading stories for Etherea Magazine, my fiction work was pretty slow.

Here are this fortnight’s stats (I’ve stopped recording total rejections because I no longer think it’s a great measure):

Submissions: 5
Pending: 6
(6 stories; 0 sim subs)
Rejections: 4
Acceptances: 0

Copywriting

As I said in my last update, I recently joined The Clever Copywriting School, and honestly, I’ve already gotten my money’s worth. I’ve been attending Zoom meetings, meeting some lovely fellow copywriters, and working through the course content. It’s fantastic.

Copywriting: Frontier Media

I write scripts for Frontier Media, a media production company specialising in YouTube content. Our two largest channels are The Front and Geetsly’s, and while I write mostly for The Front, I’ve written a little for Geetsly’s in the past and a lot for our retired channel The Braved (for which I wrote about 80 scripts).

Just one of my videos went up this fortnight, and it’s a pretty controversial one. All in all, I’ve written at least 140 scripts for The Front.

Thoughts

I was a social butterfly (actually, maybe more of a moth) last fortnight, and I bloody paid for it this fortnight, with the flu eating up most of my second week. I managed to get some work done, but not much. Working for myself, getting sick sucks. If I don’t work, I simply don’t make money. So I’m thinking I’ll stop hugging every second person if I do go out this coming fortnight, haha.

Thanks for reading <3

    1. Thanks, Aeryn. The stats are mostly from that one story, but they still count! And thanks regarding the updates too. They’re sort of like diary entries and make me feel like I’m achieving something 🙂
