This fortnight, I got an interactive fiction piece accepted and published. I also worked on my branding and chipped away at my story with the working title Ciggie Zombie.

Fiction

I was a pint deep on the 7th when I found out my interactive fiction piece Heart of Maddock got accepted to voidspace 5. I had a great time putting this little dungeon adventure together, and I’m stoked to be able to share it with you so soon. It went live yesterday, and you can play it via voidspace and itch.io.

In other news, my story with the working title Ciggie Zombie (lol) is proving to be a serious slog. I’ve been using it as a bit of a guinea pig, perpetually adjusting it in light of new things learned about writing. I think this is making for a stronger story, but it’s also dragging it out and out. I was, therefore, stoked to bang out a couple of thousand words of it last Tuesday. It got me over a mental speed bump, for sure. Not gonna lie, listening to this Cuban mix on repeat was what powered me through the eight-hour day.

I’m hoping to have Ciggie Zombie drafted by the end of the month. Toes crossed.

Copywriting

In terms of my copywriting, I rebranded yet again this fortnight. I don’t think my previous branding captured who I am. That is, a long-haired nerd who feels more comfortable in any given social situation after someone drops the C-bomb. And I definitely needed a visual accent, which came in the form of yellow. Thoughts

Overall, this fortnight was pretty scattered and slow. Getting back into things after Christmas and NYE was a bit rough, and in the second week I went away to Australind for a few days and got crabs. Both kinds.

My focus for this coming fortnight will be getting the ball rolling on LinkedIn with some posts about copywriting, and smashing out another draft for Ciggie Zombie. I’m also going to go to a cover gig in Freo. Among others, the bands are covering System of a Down and Rage Against the Machine 🤘
